I recently came across some fresh ideas in interior design. From Williams-Sonoma Home comes the concept of layering an animal hide on top of another rug.
I was inspired so much that I knock-offed the idea in my own living room…
I’m crazy about this hair-on-hide leather bench with stainless steel legs (below). Again, from Williams-Sonoma Home. Very modern yet timeless.
This winter I am really into faux fur pillows. They add a warm and cozy feeling. I like to stick to the lighter variations, so they can also work in the warmer seasons. The one below is a genuine Mongolian lambswool pillow. I got my faux fur pillows from Pottery Barn.
My knock-off of decorating with faux fur pillows…
I love the black and white tile backsplash from HGTV’s show Fixer Upper. It adds a fresh and unique touch. It also personalizes the space without overdoing it.
Here’s another example of personalizing tile in a kitchen. Below is the Granada Decorative Field in Grigio stone mosaic design from the Villa D’Oro collection of Walker Zanger.
Another fresh idea is to have a collection of mirrors on a wall instead of one conventional framed mirror. I adore the whimsical array from Cote Sud below.
And the elegant and modern display below, featured at Walker Zanger.
I love this simple and easy decoration using galvanized buckets. The grass and tree trunk slab make it very organic and modern. Again, from Fixer Upper.
Here’s another fresh idea using galvanized buckets.
I love the overall look of this dining room. Accessorizing with natural elements such as wood and anters is simple and adds a rustic touch.
Here’s my knock-off of the idea of decorating with natural wood elements straight from nature…
I recently visited a new restaurant in our town called Agricola. The décor combines an organic farmhouse motif with industrial modern. I love their innovative chandelier made from vases hanging upside down. It’s a real eye catcher.
My father was a big collector of railroad insulator lights. I’ve always wanted to use them in some innovative way. At Agricola, they have upcycled them into hanging pendants over their bar. It adds a very rustic yet industrial flair.
From Blomsterverkstad, comes another innovative item, ice lanterns. A creative idea that could very easily light the way to a winter get-together.
I love these simple, clean and fresh looking basket pendants. They are featured on Krista Keltanen’s blog. They are an open woven market basket lamp from Tine K Home. Perfect if you want a light fixture that is large but airy and modern.
Happy New Year!
I love Scandinavian design. It is a simple, clean minimalism that has an understated elegance. I came across some interiors that reflect this freshness with a mix of French and Belgian elements. Check out Sophie’s Bed and Breakfast in Møn, Denmark.
Sophie’s Boutique (the shop associated with the Bed & Breakfast) has an eclectic mix of Scandinavian, French, Belgian and Dutch decor.
The interiors of Dave Coote Design located in the UK are clean, airy and light.
Natural elements like sheepskins and antlers along with muted earthy tones reflect the Scandinavian connection to the outdoors.
I love the tag line on the latest catalog cover from Libeco Fabrics, “Believe In Linen.” Libeco is a leading manufacturer and distributor of Belgium linen. Like them, “I believe in Linen!” I not only believe in it, I love linen. It is my favorite fabric. It can add sophistication to a room while at the same time, exude a casual laissez-faire attitude.
Linen can be very affordable. You can find linen textiles at H&M Home and Ikea for very reasonable prices.
One of my favorite sites to purchase linen products is Dreamy Whites.
Chandeliers and light fixtures can be a significant element in interior design. They can add uniqueness and style and personalize your home’s décor. They can also be more than just a style choice. They can be your expressive element in the art of living. I came across some beautiful and unique chandeliers that do just that.
I love ‘les pendentifs de la lumière naturelle’ (below) featured in e-magDECO’s “Un cocon familial simple et epure.”
I love adding unexpected touches like the attached water glasses to the chandelier below.
Je vous souhaite une belle année 2015!
